What to Expect When Working With Us

GPS Tracking America Device Orders: How It Works

Getting your fleet started with a GPS tracking solution from GPS Tracking America is a straightforward, guided process. Whether you need a few tracking devices or a full fleet rollout, our team works with you from the first consultation to understand your operation, recommend the right solution, and make sure you know what to expect every step of the way.

Customizing Your Solution With Our Consultative Sales Team

Firstly, we get you set up in a conversation with our sales team. They’ll have a phone conversation with you to understand your needs and what you hope the fleet management system will accomplish for your business. From there, we will let you know if we see a fit between your needs and our products. If so, great! You will be offered a no-cost, no-pressure demonstration of the system, allowing you and your team members to see how well our solution can fulfill your requirements. After the demonstration, you’ll receive a quote that is fairly priced according to the market.

Placing Your Order

Option 1: Assisted Order (Through Our Team)

When you choose to move forward with purchasing trackers and submit a vehicle list (including year, make, and model) for your fleet, a member of our team will prepare your order for shipment to your designated address.

Before shipping, we will verify your payment details and charge for the hardware as well as the first and last month of service. Orders are typically shipped the same day payment is received. Larger orders may take one to two weeks if additional stock needs to be ordered from our suppliers.

Once prepared, the tracking devices will be shipped along with any required cabling for your specific vehicle(s) and equipment. Reviewing your vehicle list before payment helps ensure everything required is included, preventing delays or additional hardware requirements.

Option 2: Direct Website Purchase

When placing an order through our website, we will assume that you have already reviewed and confirmed the correct hardware.

Payment is processed immediately at checkout.

Installing Your Order

OBDII Tracking Devices

Our standard units can easily plug into the OBDII port of most light-duty vehicles. Some specific vehicle year, make, and model combinations may require a specialty harness so the unit can connect properly to the diagnostic port. A small number of vehicles have an OBDII port located in an awkward position, which may cause the tracking device to stick out where it could accidentally be bumped by the driver. If this applies to your vehicles, you can either reposition the port or use one of our available adapters.

Hardwired Tracking Devices OR Special Adapter Requirements

If your customized solution requires a hardwired tracking device or custom adapter harnesses, our third-party professional installers will reach out to you to schedule an appointment. It is important that we are able to verify the installation at the time it is completed, so installations should be scheduled during our regular business hours whenever possible, rather than on weekends.

Battery Powered Tracking Devices

Instructions for mounting and positioning your battery-powered tracking device will be provided to you. As with any tracking device, you need to make sure it is not placed somewhere where metal will block the signal, such as inside a fully enclosed metal trailer, as this can interfere with cellular and GPS connectivity.

Creating Your Tracking Database

Once your order is confirmed and shipped out, we will begin customizing your tracking database. We add the main system user identified during your consultation with our sales team, along with custom reports and alerts that make sense for your business based on that same conversation. The database is created shortly after your order is placed to ensure that your units can start logging information as soon as you, or our installers, get them installed in your vehicles.

Onboarding and Support

After your order has shipped, our in-house Support Department will contact you to complete your onboarding. The purpose of onboarding is to better understand your needs, identify what will make the solution successful for your business, provide an introductory training session, and introduce you to our roadmap to success.

The roadmap is a document we use to help train our clients on how to successfully use our systems. It includes contact details for the relevant people at both our company and yours, as well as a list of the key functions you are hoping to achieve by implementing a tracking system. After the onboarding session, we will send your login information and helpful getting-started links. We will also schedule a follow-up session during onboarding. This can be a shorter screen-share session to review any outstanding questions or concerns with the system. This way, we do not leave any questions on the table.

From a high-level “how it works” overview to deeper dives into the system’s capabilities, your ongoing training and support will be handled by us during our operating hours. We will check in with you a few weeks after you start using the system to make sure it is working for your needs. We will also periodically check in throughout the year to make sure you continue to be happy with our GPS tracking solution.
